WYOMING OVERSIZE LOADS

Question:
ITS ILLEGAL TO ENTER THE STATE (OR START A TRIP WITHIN WY) WITHOUT A PERMIT FOR AN OVERSIZE LOAD. UNANNOUNCED OVERSIZE OR OVERWEIGHT LOADS ARE A GROWING HIGHWAY SAFETY PROBLEM IN WYOMING.
ALL LOADS OVER LEGAL SIZE OR WEIGHT MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL BEFORE ENTERING WYOMING. FAILURE TO CALL THE APPROPRIATE WYOMING DOT PORT OF ENTRY OR THE WYDOT OFFICE OF OVERWEIGHT LOADS, IN ADVANCE MAY RESULT IN FINES.

Answer:

UH_OH!!!!!!!!!! Monty??!! did you forget to call the POE and get a an entry number before getting to the scalehouse??!!
That was one of the first things I learned when I was dragging Ag equipment..........most of the time they aren't too rough on ya,its when you forget more than once that they start getting testy

Answer:

Monty,
I recall making many phone calls to the POE at Sheridan WY when taking drilling rigs south from Canada. The majority of loads on a rig are oversize and/or overweight.
That law has been in place since Jesus was a little boy.

Answer:

I've only pulled one oversize load in Wy, and I didn't know to call. But apparently Hot Shot is having an issue with it, that information was from their drivers bulletin board.
Here the numbers to call

Answer:

Answer:

Just to repeat the most important part of Monty's information
The Port of Entry must be called BEFORE you enter the State.
Also a good idea to write down the name of the officer you speak to along with what he tells you. Can save you much money if you get stopped between state line and the port.

Answer:

The fine for your infraction, is $110.
They are pretty good about warning drivers, though.

Answer:

Yea, I received a warning ... but they notated it ... I might not be so lucky next time!

Answer:

When you call the Port official will identitify himself. Jot the name down.
You will give him the specifics of the load and he will issue a clearance number. Make certain you write that number down to give to the Port official when you arrive. He will also give you a list of provisions ( conditions) to follow until you get to the port for your paper permit.
Also if you are overweight and only registered for 80,000 in Wyoming you will be required to upgrade your weight registration which will result in increased permit costs.

Answer:

Monty
I got my first warning ticket in WY for my first Oversize into WY for not calling before entering state to get a permission number. My permit agent, Xero-fax told me to just get the permit when you get to WY and they never told me you had to call first before entering state.
I'll know next time!
