Physical size, horsepower, and weight.
What specifically were you looking for?

Answer:

ISM is basically later development of M-11 motor, roughly 11 liter motor. Currently ISM's are up to 425 hp rating in cars. ISX is the update of the big 14 liter Cummins, grandson of the Small cams, Big Cams, N-14. etc. About 800 pounds difference between them, more torque and hp in the ISX.

Answer:

Good answer!
Amazingly, while the small blocks get good fuel economy, the 600 ISX isnt bad, when driven properly. A friend of mine with a W900L pulling a tanker averages 6.

Answer:

and my ISX motor puts ALL them yellow motors to shame on a hill.

Answer:

Every M11 I ever drove was a turd for power. They did get 800K+ miles w/o a rebuild though.

Answer:

I actually had to pull a tanker with a little m11 in it, the jake brake was a foot pedal operated deal you mashed on it to get the jake brake to work, they got a flat top motor with no air cooler, it did however have the good ole manual fuel pump and with my stinger it ran pretty good for what it was, till the fuel pump shaft broke.

Me thinks you don't know the difference between a Jake Brake and a Retarder brake.
Off road logging cars and heavy haulers use retarders in ADDITION to the Jake Brake.

Answer:

I had a M11 when I first started for Roehl, then when I got a new Eagle in '02 it was a 475 ISX. Had a few little quirks to straighten out, then it was a good engine. Good puller. My new boss is a great lover of 60 Series Detroits. I'll have to work on that.

Answer:

I heard the ISM motor works good on a boat.......................As an anchor that is

Actually, I can't quite agree with that. While they aren't quite as strong as an N-14 based motor, they do a very decent job. In an application where you need the lighter weight of the M-11 motor, they provide about an 800 pound weight savings over their bigger cousins. I've driven a couple of them, 370 hp and autoshifts, and they run with or even slightly better than my 400 Mack. We have some in the fleet that have gotten over 800k of mileage with no major problems.
I'll easily agree that the ISm-'s grandfather, the L-10 was about the most torqueless piece of machinery I have ever driven. It had to be revved like it was an old 6-71 detroit to get any work out of it. But the M-11 and ISm's are a sweetie as engines go, as long as you use them within their proper uses.
In fact, in the future, when I buy my own car, that engine sits at the top of my list. My 02.

Answer:

The isx is rated for up to 565 hp and up to 1850 tq. it is also a 14 litre where as the M-11/ISM is an 11 litre rated up to 450 hp (or 500 for fire apparatus) and up to 1550 tq
I have only driven two ISM powered cars and they are both straight cars. Both have allison transmissions in them.
They both have decent power one being a model year 2000 400hp at 66k. 20k front and 46k rears
and the other being a model year 2003 450hp at 42k . 14k front and 28k rear
