Answer:

To make the setting easier if you look right in front of the trailer, the area where you hook the airlines, there is usually a listing of which hole is the legal hole to set the tandems at for certain states. Usually for Ca.. it's either the 4th,6th,or
7th hole counting from the first closed hole that's in the front.

Answer:

Answer:

Or ten feet from the trailer bumper to center of the axle.

Answer:

Some 53' trailers have the trailer marked where you need to put the pins. If the trailer has been to California before, some drivers mark the hole where you need to put the pins. Make sure you check your weights with the tandems pulled forward for California. Otherwise, you could be overweight on your axles. To be legal in California, you will need to pull the tandems almost all the way forward. Remember you have a longer swing once you pull those wheels forward.

Answer:

Thank you, It does not seem to difficult now. I have got lazy and set all week but I will head out next week and this time know if I am legal on bridge law.
Thanks again

Answer:

I use to carry a 50' roll up tape measure with me.
Using different manufactured 53' trailers, with no "markings", the tape measure was easiest for me.
I bought it at Wal-Mart for something like $8.00
Company paid for it.

Answer:

I had a Calif. Commercial Cop tell me the other day they will give you 4-6 inches of leeway on it. Meaning if you have to be one hole over to be legal on your weight, they will give it to you,,,,,,
