background checks, what for?
Question: I have read a little about the Background checks each state is to perform on drivers with a CDL with a Haz Mat endorsement starting somewhere around November 04. It seems no one really knows what is going on. I live in Ks and no one here has a clue as to what is going on or when. This is what I have been told by the office in Topeka. If people in a position of power do not have a clue, what is going on and who does have an idea? My concern is what standards are going to be used and what is the real purpose of the background check? What are the criteria for this background check? Scenario Lets say the state of California does a background check on a driver. He is found to have 3 moving violations (all for less than 10mph over in his personal vehicle) and has written 4 bounced checks. All in a 3 year period. He had been in a bar fight with his brother inlaw 2 years ago and was involved in an accident that was not his fault and not given a citation. So total this up 3 tickets = unsafe driver. Bounced checks = a candidate for a payoff for information by a terrorist. Bar fight = aggressive behavior. Accident = unsafe driver. Total = California thinks this driver is not suitable for Haz-Mat endorsement so it is not issued or is removed from CDL; He loses his job because it requires the endorsement. Loses his home and his retirement, his 401 and eventually his family. California thinks this guy should not have Haz-Mat or possibly a CDL. So we have another driver that goes by the way of unemployment lines or on the dole. What is the purpose of the background check? Who knows for sure? Could this be just another way to gain information on us so Big Brother can do more to us or at least grease us up a bit before putting it to us. We have cookies on the WEB and it is to gain information and I guess this is to do about the same thing. End of scenario. Do you think it could happen this way? Drivers if WE don’t VOTE we can kiss what few rights we have goodbye. Stand up and be real men and women and fight for your rights. Thank a VET. They fought for your freedom and your right to stand up to tyranny Answer: Ah, it is indeed an American Mystery. All my brothers and cousins have CDL's. Illinois sells them for $2,000, so I don't why anybody would go to California to buy them. I know nothing of these 'background checks'. Are they like cashier's checks? We paid cash, not by check, so maybe they don't like to take any kind of checks? Answer: Well yes it could very well happen that way. Background checks for Hazmat drivers were suppose to be in effect In Jan.2004. But the states and government could not decide whom would preform them ie FBI, local police etc.. and who would get the money ie local police, state, or federal. It's all being held up because they don't know who should do the finger printing and who should get the money. It's all about money. This has all come about from the Patriot Act, which is to help protect us from the terrorist. Kathy G. Hazmat carrying CDL holder Answer: I keep hearing about drivers worrying about background checks. Employees at places like Burger King, Mc Donalds have to undergo extensive background checks and be bonded working the cash register. Unless you have something in your past that will disqualify you to drive a car, I wouldn't worry about it. If your background is that bad, you cannot work at any other responsible position either. With some of the places car drivers go to, I'm surprised most drivers are not required to be bonded. When I worked at whse/driving I needed to be bonded. Maybe extensive background checks will thin out the herd. We definitely need some thinning!!!!!!!!! Answer: My concern is that I have a Secret clearance issued by the DOD. This is a very indepth check and I have undergone 3 so far in the last 5 years. I haul for the GVT and I don't need some mimimun wage flunky telling me I have a problem. I guess Federal credentials are not good enough for some people. My concern is just what is the standards for the check. What is the check for and what are they looking for.? A potential terrorist only has to drop the HAZ -MAT from the CDL and he is never uncovered. the back ground check will not take a bad driver off the road. Only a criminal type or maybe a CDL bought and paid for in McCook Ill. Answer: Answer: If a man cannot be employed by SWIFT or ENGLAND, what are his choices? Answer: The background checks look for felony convictions only, and only for certain crimes, going back 7 to 10 years. Few companies would hire drivers with more recent convictions than that, anyways. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.cartaste.com
