B-model resto nears completion
Question: Yup- hard to believe. Everything painted astral silver pearl. I hung the doors on yesterday, everything lines up nicely, sounds like a bank vault when you slam it. Electric window s work nice and smooth, countesy lights off and on correctly. I used some kind of a spring loaded brass contact plate between door and jamb- so you didn't have to have wires feeding thru jamb- very slick but a real pain in the *** to lineup. Made engine-turned stainless steel panals to replace the original dash panal and glove box door- looks like a Stutz bearcat. Selected SW Wings series old timey gauges for this- all I could make fit. Down the center of cab roof between driver and pass I made a freeform console to hold CD player and CB, plus a few switches. This same shape duplicated on both door panals which form arm rests. Expect upholstry guy this wekend. Whole cab/headliner to be a smoke colored tweed, black pile carpeting. Exhaust system complete. I made a 5"7" 3/16 steel manifold to lie across the frame rails and pass the exhaust on to two 6" monster stacks- no muffler. Can't wait to hear her rumble- maybe this weekend. Oh yeah- chrome train horn on the roof- its almost over the top but I don't think so. close. So, that about it. I will leave the front end sheetmetal off- till I can run her down to the diesel shop and get a tune on the fuel pump. And I suppose I will have to deal with some kind of last minute leak or whatever. But I intend to drive this to Syracuse. See you there. Oh yeah, one more tidbit. I had to add a new rosewood and polished SS steering wheel. Its out of sight. Answer: hey psuedomonas i am just on the other side of the state from ya but the way your discribeing it i can just about see it from here and it sure sounds nice i wrote to you before and i was proud of the fact it was a B-67 instead of an every day B-61 meanwhile over here in west tennessee i am steady at work on my 72 359 pete i,m glad your to the point that you can look at what you got and see it almost done and know everything is like you wanted it to be oh and about them SW gages you used what kind of face background do they have and can you get them for air pressure trans temp and rear end temp?? thats one thing i like about old cars is a dash full of gages lite up at nite keeping an eye on a CUMMINS Answer: I think you are going to have a wonderfull car going to the show. Hope to see it there. I m working on a B-Model myself I am doing it a little different than most and some object but I hope it looks half as good as you decribed yours. I still have not gotten much futher along than the frame. Still working on the finding the rest of the car, and have modifactions I want to make on the frame too. BOBGIL Answer: I can picture the B- model ya described & sounds like a beauty . What kind & size motor ? 673 or 711 Mack or 220 Cummins ? or more updated maybe? Answer: The instruments are SW wings series- glass convex dial, either black face ot white face, and have all the big car instruments- air susp, trans tenp etc. Contact Terry at A&B Inc 615-259-4454 and he can fix you up. Its a 673 with turbo. I expect to fire it up very soon- can't wait to hear turbo whine. I used plenty of noise/heat insulation all over cab, doors, firewall- the marine lead/foam stuff that adds about 200 lbs to car weight. But its like a tomb inside. Figger I'll just lower the window when I want some engine noise. Answer: I'd be glad to just have shiny PAINT on mine .
