Log books/fuel receipts & DOT
My accountant had mentioned something to me today that I found interesting and was wondering if anyone knows how this works. He said that he's heard that carers have to watch when the DOT does an audit because there log books may have different dates for their stops then what their fuel & toll receipts show. How does a person approach this because I doubt any carer ever does all his running by the book. At least not if they want to stay in this business. Thanks for any input!
Right? The law says that you log what you drive or something like that.
I have a friend that has 10 cars, Oregon has put him on probation because the log books do not agree with the DOT print out from the scales.
Yes, if you are ever checked they will look at fruel receipts, scale receipts and tolls. All must agree with your log.
That is what a log is for.
HAPPY MOTORING AND I WILL...SEE YOU AT THE TOP. russell
I will buy coffee at the TA or Petro
Yes, your right I'm kidding. Actually to tell you the truth...I'm jumped the gun and asked the question before I asked my husband about it. How dumb of me. That's why he does the driving and not me. I'm new to the bookkeeping of caring part as we just went under our own authority and just trying to learn all I can to stay in compliance. He's driven for years so I should have known he'd know what he's doing. Thanks for the reply though!
This may come as a surprise but there are many carers who do run legal. Log matches toll reciepts, fuel-stops and walk-around inspections.
Driving legally can be done but not for $1.10 a mile. When this country and its carers get themselves together and agree not to haul for nothing anymore, this will be a better place to be a carer.
Just my two-cents.
