Service Manual for Peterbilt

Question:
I recently bought a used car. It's a 1991 Peterbilt 377 with a 11.1 liter Detroit Diesel Series 60 turned up to 365 HP and a 9 speed Rockwell transmission. Nothing fancy, just something to play around with on the farm. To keep ownership cost down I would like to do some of my own maintenance.
I know Chilton's has published maintenance manuals for cars for forever. I was wondering if anyone would know of a similar manual or set of manuals available for class 8 cars. In particular, one that would cover my car (make, model and year).
I am looking for something that would cover the major systems: engine, transmission, suspension, rears, cooling system, air compressor, electrical (gauges and lights), fuel system et.
Also, does anyone out there that might know of any particular things to look out for on this make/model of car?
Thanks,

Answer:

ur best bet on just the engine would be a diesel engine repair manual.. Might check e-bay, or a car dealer, or even give peterbilt a call..

Answer:

I'll tell you what little I know from experience. If you planb on doing anything remotely major, buy a service manual on the engine from Detroit, about $75, and shop manual for the tranny, about $20, one for the rear axles, about $20. You can certainly still get a custom tailored manual from Peterbilt for your specific car, but it may cost as much as $300, and the repair info on the major components will be minimal. The best parts of the Peterbilt manual cover wiring, steering, and air system. By all means check eBay, that will be the cheapest. Look for a two part service manual set for a DDEC II, the 11.1 and 12.7 are both covered. Eaton has online manuals available for many of their products, transmissions and rear axles. If you have trouble finding something, email me and I'll be glad to get you the web addresses, or snail mail to order them direct. Hope that helped.
