WAP technology?
Question: Being a technophobe and also terminally dumb!!! I am looking for some clarification on the new generation of mobile phones that use WAP technology..... All the adverts on TV say is that there is internet access on the phone... however it doesn't say wether it is only special sites or if all sites can be accessed.... Any info gratefully recieved ------ RIKKI Worldwide Drivers Forum car.net/bbs "The Secret of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the floor and miss" HITCHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Answer: I'll give it a shot and try to explain it as simple as possible. I have a cell phone capable of accessing the internet. This is NOT the same access that you get from your PC. But give it time, I'm sure that it will come. Anyway, your home PC uses what is called HTML programming. The phones use HDML, a new and totally separate version. The two share the same basic concept but are uncompatible. Only websites that are coded(made) with HDML can be seen by the phones. So in a nutshell, if you were to type in into one of these phones, it would not work since car.Net doesn't have a separate HDML coded version. A link to some sites programmed with HDML Follow the link, and dig around a bit. Phone.Com is the main originator in the WirelessWeb market. Answer: Thanks Digital....at last an explanation I can understand... LOL There is an interesting report in one of the UK caring mags RE: Wireless internet access via satellite.... apparently it is still in the experimental stage over here is the US any closer? ------ RIKKI Worldwide Drivers Forum car.net/bbs "The Secret of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the floor and miss" HITCHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Answer: We has a system that is somewhat similar, but 1)it is expensive, and 2) you still need a phoneline to upload. You get abot 400Kbps on a good day. 350Kbps is fast enough for me on my cable line ... just need the computer to be able to kkep up. Got an old dinosaur 233 Pentium. Answer: Found this info on the next generation mobile internet ------ RIKKI Worldwide Drivers Forum car.net/bbs "The Secret of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the floor and miss" HITCHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Answer: Who says you can't get to car Net on the phone .... oh, we're still working on that one!
