Former minister executed for killing in the name of God
Question: This thread isn't so much about the abortion issue as it is about a fanatical madman using God as a scapegoat to defend his actions! CBS/AP) Paul Hill, a former minister who said he murdered an abortion doctor and his bodyguard to save the lives of unborn babies, was executed Wednesday by injection. He was the first person put to death in the United States for anti-abortion violence. Hill, 49, was condemned for the July 29, 1994, shooting deaths of Dr. John Bayard Britton and his bodyguard, retired Air Force Lt. Col. James Herman Barrett, and wounding Barrett's wife, June, outside the Ladies Center in Pensacola. Hill was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m., Gov. Jeb Bush's office said. This is what this madman said in an interview after losing his last appeal to stay his execution.. Since losing his automatic appeals, Hill has not fought his execution and insisted up to the day before his death that he would be forgiven by God for killing to save the unborn. "I expect a great reward in heaven," he said in an interview Tuesday, during which he was cheerful, often smiling. "I am looking forward to glory." In that interview, Hill suggested others should take up his violent cause, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann. "I think it was a good thing and instead of people being shocked at what I did, I think more people should act as I acted," he said. This takes fanatical so-called Christians to the worst possible level! This gives Christianity a worse black eye then any fundamentalist ever could. This man committed a murder,no ifs ands or buts! To use God as the reasons to kill is truly horrible! Is it any wonder we Christians can not win people to the side of God,with men like this that make Christians seem like they belong in a bouncy room in a jacket with no sleeves? I am deeply saddened that this kind of person is what non-christians and christians are seeing more and more God bless those that this madman killed in his delusional state. ********* "If you think that something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room." Answer: People can recognize that not all christians are maniacs like this, ugh, bad bad man. (sometimes censorship stinks) On the other foot, hopefully people don't follow this man thinking he will receive 'glory' for doing what he did and start a copycat spree. See, this is yet another reason I'm against the death penalty. It's this barbaric idea of 'eye for an eye' that creates madmen (and women) and kills others. "Gee, this person is killing babies, I think I'll kill him for doing that..." No, that is not right. While I'm anti-abortion, I'm NOT this scary. Education, seminars, videos (I saw this one video of aborted fetuses...) THOSE are what will end abortion, not crackpots killing doctors! This 'man' sickens me as a human being, regardless of faith and/or religion. Answer: I'm guessing that right about now, he's wondering why the elevator went down and not up. He's a murderer, plain and simple and a cold-blooded one at that. He got what he deserved. Personally, I agree with the death penalty in certain cases. This was one of those. It is also the law of the land, for better or worse. Additionally, I am very much against abortion. Abortion apalls me and I feel it is utterly barbaric - BUT, I believe that it also should be a person's choice. Forcing someone to any view is against the very nature of freedom of choice. If there are spiritual consequences to getting an abortion, none of us are in any position to levy those consequences. ---- Humbled I am to be a member of this hollow(ed) community. Answer: This goes to show how fundamentalism can breed terrorism. This man was a terrorist the same as, and for the smae reasons as, the 911 terrorists. On the other hand this should be a wake up call for all the Fundies who claim that Islam is a "terrorist religion" and not Christianity. It should also be a wake up call for those who wish to paint all Muslims with the same brush. If this man does not represent Christians then the 911 bombers do not represent Muslims. Answer: You won't get any argument from me on that particular stance, because I am in complete agreement. It only takes a few bad apples to give them all a bad taste. Whether you are talking Muslim, Christian, Pagan, aethiest, etc. 2 years ago, it took a handful of radical Muslims to taint nearly every American's view of the rest of them. Just like it takes 1 nutball with a gun and a 'cause' to taint people's views of Christianity. And not to change the subject, but that's one reason why it's so hard for me to grasp the concept of not believing in God. With man's penchant for hate and violence and more and better ways to eliminate your neighbor, this race will be dead in a matter of decades. Without hope of a better life or existence on the horizon, what would be the purpose of going on? Again, not to throw the subject off-topic, but it is relevant. ---- Humbled I am to be a member of this hollow(ed) community. Answer: When you say "not believing in God", are you referring to your God in particular, or believing in a Divine being or beings in general? Answer: Nope - Divinity in general. Regardless of what you believe in, if you believe in anything after this life, you're halfway there. It's those that have the belief of "You're born, you live, you die, you're dust" that I don't understand. How depressing would life be if you didn't have anything to look forward to? Man, even believing that you would be reincarnated as a bug would be preferable to nothing at all. ---- Humbled I am to be a member of this hollow(ed) community. Answer: This goes to show how fundamentalism can breed terrorism. This man was a terrorist the same as, and for the smae reasons as, the 911 terrorists. That is the function of religion, terrorism. It has no purpose outside of murder and theft. Some just prefer to murder by proxy, then proclaim themselves as having blood free hands. Death penalty for one, not for the other? Contradictory statements, but not at all surprising when dealing with morally bankrupt superstitions. Abortions are usually for economic reasons, in a society that values wealth over people. this wealth worship is tolerated by churches because that is what its leaders are all about, acquiring power and money. The fact that you wish to claim some sort of seperation from the man who murdered the doctor, wishing to murder him, yet proclaim some sort of nebulous 'judgement' on those getting abortions highlights the moral degeneracy inherent in religion and it's beleivers. Some lives are worth more than others in this mythological system. And not to change the subject, but that's one reason why it's so hard for me to grasp the concept of not believing in God. With man's penchant for hate and violence and more and better ways to eliminate your neighbor, this race will be dead in a matter of decades. Pretty funny stuff, since the pacifist religions are all proclaimed to be the work of the Devil, and false, while Christianity and Mohammedism are perfect twins, who specialize in developing this penchant for hate and violence, usually for the benefit of its leaders. Must be nice to be able to alter your morals to suit what you happen to want at the moment. And not to change the subject, but that's one reason why it's so hard for me to grasp the concept of not believing in God. It is just hard for you because you are a conceited and frightened human who thinks he deserves immortality for mouthing magical incantations. The only concern expressed here is for 'image', not the doctor who was murdered; thus, the man is to be murdered by the state for his affect on the image of one cult, and the possible future income and political influence it might cost your magical society. ___________________________ Humans are amazing creatures. Or could you be refering to the religious eco terrorism going on now? Those that are ideoligically tied to you, preach of no "religion' yet kill and terrorize every second of the day! Answer: So, Dominos. What part of IF did you not understand - meaning IF there is a spiritual penalty to be paid, it is not for us to levy. I don't recall anything in my post that was a double standard. I happen to agree with the death penalty in certain instances. I happen to think abortion is barbaric. I happen to believe everyone has the freedom to do as they please; abortion & murder included. I happen to believe that there are consequences, both spiritual and temporal, to breaking the laws of man and/or god. I also happen to believe that you do not have the functional capacity to carry on a decent conversation without littering it with name-calling. I happen to believe that your posts are nearly a vacuous as Ron C's. I happen to believe that while you do not appear to serve any discernable purpose on this earth, you are here, so someone apparently thinks so. That alone, would have to be indicative of a higher power. When you can be a man and present your views in an adult manner, please do so. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I'm glad we came up with a common point of reference. Answer: I don't recall anything in my post that was a double standard.
