Answer:

To believe in Prophecy is an attempt to ascertain a secure feeling about the future.
The future is a fantasy. We can extrapolate, yes. We can project, yes. But prophecy? To know what will be?
Has not your own life been filled with unexpected events, pebbles which may have changed the course of the Mississippi?
I hate to keep coming back to this. I guess I need a different approach--but in the lack of that--to believe in prophecy is to renounce your intellect.
The intellect is unsure, subject to revision, susceptible to mistakes. Belief is sure and steadfast. It is comforting in an uncomfortable world.
I don't blame you or ridicule you for this. I wish more than you know that I could stand shoulder-to-shoulder to you, convinced and a believer in the righteousness of the Army Of God.
But I think, as the James Taylor song says, that it is time to put down the rifle of God.
Job, it is extremely comforting to believe in the existence of a Godly plan. The fact is, I take all these plans and * on them from a great height.
If God planned all this out He has a Deadly Sense Of Humor.
If He knew all these things were coming, and he PLANNED them, I suggest that our weapons in the region of the Middle East are misdirected.
May you be well and happy!
