Time to "Look Good"?

Question:
Hi all..this is my first post. After reading ALL posts on this site I am curious where the ladies find time to shower and do their hair and make up every day. Must be the kind of freight they haul. I pull reefer and have anywhere from 4 to 8 stops on a trailer and NEVER have time to take care of ME every day. The worst week I remember I had 7 hrs sleep in a week, second worst week had 6 stops within 40 mile radius of Boston to be delivered in one day. Perhaps I am too greedy...I made $53,000 in ten months last year driving solo. If you ladies did as well and had time to look good every day, I beg you to tell me how. I go home every week after a run to the east coast and am usually home 2-3 days a week, avg 2400 miles but sometimes run 2 trips a week if there are not alot of stops on each trailer. Is it just me doing w/o all the pampering??

Answer:

"7 hours of sleep in a week"...........
I doubt that is entirely true.
There is no reason that you can not take care of yourself while on the road. None!
Do you have time to have a cup of coffee and read the morning paper?
You have time to take care of yourself.
Do you have time to stop and eat?
You have time to take care of yourself.
Do you have time to stop and fuel?
You have time to take care of yourself.
Get my point?
Its not hard to make time for yourself provided you care how you present yourself and your company in public.
Our car runs 24/7 when I am on it. But I always take the time to grab my "me" bag and go into the ladies room to freshen up.
Dove and Olay make great facial wipes. Make up is not hard. Its not like you are getting ready to go to the opera. A little mascarra, lipstick, blusher, your done. Wear your hair in a style that is easy to take care of and yet still affords you to look like a lady.
By all means PLEASE keep your fingernails and hands clean at all times. Nothing worse than a woman with dirty hands and fingernails. YUK!
A shower?
That goes without saying....YES! Everyday if possible. But every other day at the very least. On that "off" day, baby wipes come in handy for that "PTA".
Time management sounds like something that you are lacking in, but you should always take enough time for you.
Who knows, you may help me in setting the example for the woman in the bathroom "watching" me/you clean up. Maybe soon, they will all start to follow suit.
You have no reason to not take care of yourself.....just excuses.

Don't deprive yourself of needed sleep, people die when that happens and it is the holiday season with lots of families on the road.

Answer:

that the longer the redhead goes without a shower (anything over 24 hrs)....the more the hair flames....so he changed his way of carin...and I get to dance in the eater closet atleast everyother day...and babywipes are the inbetweens.
we used to run reefer...and if those produce houses would put in showers instead of tomaine wagons...I'd still be draggin a fridge, instead of the skateboard I have come to know and love. I know I get dirty throwin straps and tarps. But I also know I'l be given time to get clean, eat, and rest, and still make a decent living.

...a person not taking a shower every day smells as bad as some one carrying a dog or a hair shedding cat in the car ...
Excuse me? I travel with my dog, and my customers all love to visit with him and have remark on how clean he is. My dog DOES NOT smell.
Common Sense - DON'T leave home without it!
If all is not lost, where is it?

Answer:

Must shower at LEAST every day. For those of you allergic to baby wipes (as I am) the Olay facial clothes work great. Add a little water and they soap up.

I understand what she is saying. With the time frams she's working with and lack of car stops in the areas she's running I can see her difficult situation. I'm a male driver and I've learned a few tips from other drivers around the country that have faced the same issues Littlefoot now faces. When your dead on your feet tiered, sleep time takes over other priorities, even food, and I bet she eats while driving most of the time. The biggest problem is finding a place to park a car up in that area. Usually a car stop is too far out of route to be practical. This post is long but for good reason. Over the years drivers have helped each other out on the in's and out's of life on the road. This life style is not always easy and we travel in some very remote areas of the country where there are little or no services available, yes even large cities fall under this catagory. So during those times we have to rough it the best we can. Being informed and prepared is an important factor and thru the years I have picked up many tips from drivers throughout the 48 states and Canada. So now I pass them on to you, how you view them is up to you and only you. But remember, you asked for advice on this subject and your situation presents some difficult challanges that not many other drivers face on a day to day basis. I don't know how friendly orientated your customers are or if you must be with the car while it's being off loaded. But this is what I use to do. And don't laugh, it works, trust me. The list is as follows: I'd carry 2 plastic 2 gallon size gasoline containers of water, use larger ones if you want. The reason for the plastic gasoline containers is there rugged, take up little space and easy to pour water from and kept them inside the car during the winter months. You can buy them at K-mart or Wal-Mart and there not expensive. Also pick up the following items, either a 2 gallon size bathroom type trash can or a 2 or 3 gallon pail 3 gal size is better, I carried both, I kept the trash container inside the pail to reduce space. One "LARGE" bath towel, face cloth, area rug (you may already have these) the area rug needs to be clean because this rug is going to be use for only one purpose, your not going to use this area rug as a normal rug in the car and kept folded off the floor when not in use and a full rap around window curtain for the car, if you don't have a built in window curtain on your car, you can either buy one at a well stocked car stop or make your own. I'm going to assume you don't have a window curtain, so I'll give you a tip on how to set it up for speed of use and ease. You can buy 5 small plastic spring loaded clamps in the hardware dept. they are very usefull in securing a curtain to the sun visor and around the area were the seat belt brackets are attached to the wall of the car. The advantage of a curtain is it gives you a lot more privacy and space than just the sleeper curtain. When not in use, I'd just loosely roll it up and keep it at the foot of the bed. Now for the nitty gritty. With the curtain in place you can take a bath, really!! put your clean area rug on the floor in the sleeper to stand on fill the pail with water about half full no more, with the face cloth and soap your ready to go at it. But a word of caution, wring out excess soapy water from the face cloth and wash your face first rinse the face cloth and wipe your face again than towel dry, work your way down, washing, rinsing, drying as you go, leave your feet for last, you can put them inside the pail. You may have a thin film of soap on your skin but soap as far as I know never hurt anyone, and you'll feel like a million bucks better than what your doing now. I use to do this before I went to bed and slept like a baby smelling good and clean. As far as your hair goes, I never found a way to do that in the car. What I did was wash my hair in a sink, many times at the customers and sometimes out side the car. That is why I asked about how friendly your customers are, I never had any complaits about this from any of my customers. This will get you by until you find the time and a car stop. I have to say, I've never been in the position your in very often because I ran long hauls most of the time but there were those times over the years were this did come in handy. But what ever you decide, good luck and keep clean.

Answer:

I have to wash my hair everyday if not it gets greasier than a carstop grill..
and it doesnt matter what I am running I always have time for at least a wipe down and hair washing, I have always thought of putting on make up and washing my hair as getting ready for work I would never go to the office, etc looking like I had not bathed in days and I would not even consider it as a driver. I keep a gallon of water a towel and a wash cloth, and some dry shampoo in my car at all times, for those just in case days.
There is always time to take care of your self and if you are finding yourself with out this time you need to rethink your running practices. I also always keep my hands and nails clean, even as a dirt hauler. I hate to see dirty nails amd hands.
I §werve and hit people at random
