Question:
Years ago when I pulled for Ardmore Farms out of DeLand and Alterman Transport out of Opa Locka (those of you educated in Government schools, those cities are in Florida) there was a company called Markel(sp?) Services hired to track your movement and rules infractions (ie. speeding, logs etc)..........they would drive unmarked cars and could stop you at any time.........I'm just curious, are they still around......maybe not, with the advent of GPS, Qualcomm etc.

I know Werner and a number of other large carriers use to use Markel(sp?) Services years ago....(I'm not sure about the spelling either)
They could not pull cars over, they could only check drivers that were already stopped or Markel witnessed unsafe driving. But they had no inforcement powers to stop cars, only reporting back to the carrier.
I don't think they are involved in the caring business any longer but I do not know if Merkel is still in business under another capacity.

dak1........once again your right, I only remember them questioning me when I was stopped or something..........they were a pain in the butt, I do remember that........once coming back from California, I stopped to get a couple of plum's out of the trailer to eat in the middle of the Desert outside Palm Springs, out of nowhere, up walks a Markel Agent while I was taking a leak......startled the hell out of me.

I was in a carstop in Denver very long ago when up walked an agent from Markel.
He said "HOW YA DOIN' GOVERNOR!!"
I was a bit dumbfounded, and then he showed me his "little badge thingy". I then immediately handed him my logbook, and he said "No, all I want is your last change of duty status". I told him, and he said "Have a nice day, GOVERNOR!!".
