As the cars come around turn three, three wide, Jamie McMurray settles in second around the bottom. However, just two laps later, Dale Jr takes the second spot around the outside. There appears to be plenty of rubber on the track allowing for decent grip, but it is still quite early in this 500 lap race. The first caution comes early as Andy Hillenburg locks up his brakes and slams hard into the outside wall. Restart on lap 23. Jeff ordon still in the lead followed by Dale Jr, Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Bush. Lap 26, second caution. This time for Robbie Gordon. Gordon had cut a tire after contact with Johnny Sauter a couple laps earlier but cound not find a way to the bottom of the track. As the tire goes completely flat, Gordon spins coming out of turn two. Restart on lap 32 has Jeff Gordon still leading followed by Jr, McMurray, Harvick and Bush. Lap 49. Jr comes around the inside of Gordon to take the lead. Lap 66. Using the lap car of Jimmy Spencer to block Jr, Gordon takes the lead back. Lap 74. As Jeff Burton fights Gordon to remain on the lead lap, Jr's car seems to be fading as McMurray takes second. Lap 100. Jr has gotten real tight and is back to 7th. Toney Stewart started 30th. After a significant track bar adjustment back during the caution on lap 29 and is now in 14th. Mark Martin has driven his way through traffic and now running in 8th. Lap 116. Jimmy Johnson takes second from McMurray and sets his sights on Gordon for the lead, which he accomplishes on lap 119 just as a caution comes out. Lap 119. Kenny Schrader is around and around! Joe Nemechec came down the track and hit Schrader sending him hard into the inside wall just before the entrance to pit row. Look at Kenny go! He is out of his car, vaults over the wall and sprints across pit row like he is on a mission! Restart on lap 130. Jimmy Johnson leads, with Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Mark Martin making up the top five. Lap 135. After three laps of trying, Gordon takes the second spot. Lap 138. After a six lap battle, Rusty takes fourth from Stewart, but Stewart is unhappy with the way it happened, though I could not see anything but a slide job by Rusty to cause Stewart to bump him back to show his, (Stewart's,) displeasure. Lap 141. Martin gets around Stewart. Lap 145. Martin goes around Wallace almost effortlessly. Nice to see all the old timers racing up front. I see Sterling Marlin has made his way up to 7th, but Jimmy Johnson still leads while jamie McMurray is in third. Do the vetrans have anough for them? Lap 151. Ryan Newman passes Stewart but Stewart is unhappy with this pass as well and he decides to do something about it. Getting a good run, Stewart pushes Newman up the track and takes the position back. Lap 160. Kyle petty could not get out of the way when Scott Riggs came around the corner and got into him, causing M Waltrip to hit Riggs and spinning around. Restart lap 170. Ryan Newman has the lead. He is followed by Johnson, Wallace, Gordon and Martin. Lap after lap we are watching two battles up front. Side by side Jimmy Johnson is fighting Newman for first while right in back of him, also side by side, Jeff Gordon is fighting Rusty Wallace for third. Lap 180. Gordon has won his battle for third, but the fight continues for first. Lap 184, Gordon takes second as Johnson wins the battle for first. Lap 188. Newman falls to Wallace as McMurray takes fifth from Martin. Lap 194. Gordon takes the lead. And to think, we are not even half way through the race! Lap 214. Brendan Gaughan is around, helped along by Brian Vickers who happened to get into him at an inoppertune time going into turn three. Gordon leads the lead lap into the pits. Restart lap 224. Gordon still leads followed by McMurray, Johnson, Dale Jr and Martin. Lap 229, Johnson is coming once again as he takes second. Lap 240. Ok, I know it's a battle for 15th, but what a fight it is. Finally after eight intensive laps, banging off each other in the process, M Waltrip finally gets around Stewart. Lap 269. Jeremy Mayfield is around and against the wall. It appears as Mayfield simply broke loose and spun. Everyone back into the pits. Restart lap 278. Dale Jr beats everyone out as Gordon has a slow stop. McMurray, Gordon, Martin and Marlin bring up the rest of the top five. lap 283. My Waltrip is around. It appeared as Waltrip may have hit something to make him loose and Ricky Rudd gets into him causing the spin. Just as the caution flies, Gordon hits a piece of concrete that came up from a pothole in the track in turn three. The piece of concrete tore up the right front fender and valence as well as causing possible front end problems. Restart lap 302, Dale Jr leads after one hour and seventeen minutes of delay. He is followed by McMurray, Marlin, Wallace and Martin. Gordon restarted 23rd. Lap 308. Wallace makes a move and passes Marlin for 3rd as McMurray has caught Jr. Lap 343. Gordon has fought his way to tenth! We come back from the commercial on lap 367 to find Johnson passing McMurray who has slipped to third at some point. Marlin is in second. lap 374. Morgan Shepard is reported to be around brining out the caution. All the leaders head for the pits since it has been over 80 laps since the red flag deal. We never do come back to this so we do not get a replay to see what happened. Lap 395. Rudd pulls into the pits with a flat tire. He was also doing well today but will go at least two laps down as a result. Restart on lap 381 , Jr beats everyone out of the pits. Tagging right behind is Johnson, Wallace, Bobby Labonte and McMurray. Mark Martin is reporting no fuel pressure and has dropped way off the pace. He pulls into the pits. Apparantly the problem is with the fuel line to the tank and it will have to be replaced. Too bad too as Mark was doing great today. 90 to go. Johnson takes the lead. Lap 415, Scott Wimmer locks up his brakes coming into the turn and goes around. Johnson stays out on the race track with 30 laps on his tires as everone else head into the pits. Will this make a big difference? Restart lap 423, Johnson leads with Newman, Dale Jr, Wallace and Bobby Labonte following. Caution again on lap 430. Kevin Harvick is around, help along by Matt Kenseth who was trying to pass marlin on the inside when he suddenly ran up on Harvick. Restart on lap 440, Johnson stll leads as he continues to opt out of pitting. He is followed by Newman, Wallace, Labonte and Dale Jr. Side by side for about nine laps, Wallace and Newman fight for second while running up on the leader at the same time. Finally Rusty wins the fight against his teammate. Lap 457. Just as Wallace takes the lead the caution comes out as Joe Nemechec spins coming out of turn two causing Ricky Craven to slam into his side. The leaders stay out during the caution. Restart on lap 464. Wallace, Johnson, Newman, Labonte and Dale Jr. Rusty gets a great restart and immediatly pulls away. Rusty is real hungry and takes advantage of the struggle behind him to make his lead 1.5 seconds. Labonte reports something is falling off Wallace's car, but the officials do not agree. 25 to go. Labonte is in second and gaining on Wallace. Can Rusty hold on? 20 to go. Rusty's lead is down to one second as labonte clears the lap car of Nemechec. 10 to go. Labonte is held up by lap traffic. 8 to go. Clear traffic for the front two. As Gordon attempts a bump and run on Newman for fifth, Labonte is closing on Rusty. 5 to go. The margin is six tenths of a second lead for Rusty. Gordon and Newman are still fighting for fifth. Rusty takes the white flag. Rusty takes the checkered! Dang! It's about time he broke that losing streak! Rusty Wallace spins around and takes the victory lap in honor of Alan Kulwiki. (I know this is probably spelled wrong, sorry for that. ) (He always dedicates a victory lap to a fallen comrade.) Answer: Once again great recap Ramman .Was a great race today and i sure was hoping for a great finish for mark the way he was running but once again bad luck scar.Since mark was out of the running i started rooting for rusty to win.The last 15 laps or so i was getting nervous for ol rusty as he was sure losing a lot of fluid out the overflow. His hotrod must have been just a bit warm and i figured the way his luck goes he would blow up before the finish .Was glad to see him win and now maybe the media will shut up about his losing streak Plus the pressure has to be off of him some what now. Was great to see him do the polish victory lap in honor of alan !!!!! Answer: Somehow I missed something from my notes that I fully intended to put in the recap. Dale Jr has added another word to my youngest son's vocabulary, "Suspicionary!" During the red flag delay, Jr was asked what he saw. His first responce was that he saw a big hole! Good job Dale! (Yes, I know he was just trying to be funny!) When asked his opinion of the ongoing discussions between Jeff Gordon and M Helton, Dale said he thought something was, "Very suspinionary!" Come on now, I am not making fun of Jr, just having a little fun myself. My son has been going all over describing things as suspinionary ever since! Answer: LOL yeah dale jr has a way with the english language thats for sure .Hope you son recovers soon !!!! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.cartaste.com
